State-of-the-Art CBD Vending Machines Are Now a Thing in Suburban Miami

With the push of a button, shoppers can now automatically purchase cannabis products at CBD in Doral, Florida, a suburb of Miami.
The Wellness Pantry, developed by cannabis technology company Cultiva, allows people who download the company’s free app on their mobile phone to remotely purchase CBD and take edibles from a vending machine similar to one that sells soda and chips.
How it works
According to Cultiva’s CEO, the vending machine is equipped with remote monitoring and verification features, contactless payments and the use of blockchain technology to verify the age of customers. Unlike marijuana dispensaries, which by state law can only operate in dispensaries, CBD dispensaries like the Wellness Pantry can operate almost anywhere, including nonprofit organizations and even apartment complexes.

The first Wellness Pantry was launched this weekend at an apartment complex owned by NFC Amenity Management, one of the largest facility management companies in the country.
Not the first, not the last
Cultiva Wellness Pantry is not the first cannabis dispensary on the US market, but it is certainly one of the most advanced. Last October, the Anna dispensary also made its debut at Star Buds dispensaries in Colorado. This follows the introduction of GreenStop vending machines in California, which are equipped with four touch screens that allow multiple customers to order at once.
At least two other companies have marketed more traditional vending machines where the customer can choose an item by inserting money and pressing a two-button code.
CBD and cannabis dispensaries in licensed cannabis businesses theoretically help store owners get customers in and out faster and reduce wait times for patients. Vending machines can also be used as a point of sale in rural areas or remote towns that cannot sustain real stores.
However, the automated service still faces a number of challenges before it becomes a permanent part of the cannabis landscape. In addition to the obvious technical challenges of the machine’s ability to accurately integrate with store cash registers, many states have regulations that require a person to control the cannabis purchasing process. Nevada and Michigan are among at least 20 U.S. states that have passed laws requiring a receipt for cannabis purchases to be issued and verified by a store clerk.
Robots vs. Villains
The machines offer limited choices compared to a full workshop, and they can cost up to $25,000 each.
Although industry consultants believe it will be years before vending machines become commonplace in CBD dispensaries and stores in the U.S., Torres says vending machines are not intended to completely replace bath vending machines.
There will always be customers who come into the store and want to talk about a product before they buy it, he said. The presence of these devices will only improve the experience of customers who prefer this route.
